LAUNCH OF DIGITAL MULTI-MEDIA ‘CALL TO ACTION’ INITIATIVE TO COMBAT MUSLIM STEREOTYPES & MOBILIZE DIVERSE COMMUNITIES IN CHICAGO REGION
Eboo Patel, Rami Nashashibi, Bill Kurtis, Terry Mazany, Azhar Usman, Kevin Coval usher in Red Carpet Premiere featuring Film Contest, Community Ambassadors & Community Action Grants
WHAT:
One Nation with The Chicago Community Trust, Link TV, Interfaith Youth Core, and Inner-City Muslim Action Network will launch One Chicago, One Nation with a call for entries to its Online Film Contest hosted by Link TV.
One Chicago, One Nation is a first-of-its-kind national social initiative model designed to engage a representation of the Chicago area’s 400,000 Muslims with culturally diverse residents as a critical step toward overcoming ongoing tensions.
The Red Carpet Premiere will showcase the program’s Link TV Online Film Contest, and unveil how the public can connect to the initiative by becoming part of its sweeping mobilization of Community Ambassadors and participate through its community-building grants project.
The launch features Bill Kurtis, journalist and performances by “Allah Made Me Funny” comedian, Azhar Usman; poet, Kevin Coval; DJ David Chavez; and live music by Seneke Ensemble and Duzan Ensemble.

A Gallup Poll commissioned in 2006 identified face-to-face interaction as the key to combating racism and fear toward the Muslim community. One Chicago, One Nation is the first initiative in the country to take a sweeping, yet resolute approach to offer diverse communities opportunities for productive interaction and vivid narratives to overcome misperceptions, to work together and generate dialogue that reinforces America’s social fabric.
