COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

Community Ambassadors will facilitate interfaith Community Conversations, using winning films from the One Chicago, One Nation film contest as inspiration for conversation. Conversations led by Community Ambassadors, will bring together community members to engage and to motivate participants to organize community action across interfaith and inter-cultural boundaries.

5:30 pm – Community service activity
6:30 pm – Program begins

  • Opening Remarks (Rabbi Asher Lopatin)
  • Remarks from participating Imam and Rabbi
  • Jewish Evening Prayer
  • Muslim Break of Fast & Prayer Maghrib Salat
  • Communal Dinner (Kosher), Film and Discussion
  • Program concludes (9:00 pm)

Ramadan has just begun and there is just one week left until Iftar in the Synagogue.

The Jewish-Muslim Community Building Initiative (JMCBI) and Anshe Sholom B’nai Israel Congregation invite Muslim and Jewish community members to Iftar in the Synagogue 2010 – Know Thy Neighbor.
This event is a unique interfaith gathering during the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan and the Jewish month of Elul.

Join us on Thursday, August 19th for an optional community service project with the Night Ministry at 5:30 pm before the official Iftar programming begins to help package materials for homeless or abused youth.
We are relying on your generosity to make this possible! Please bring one or two (or more!)
of the following items:

  • Small tube of toothpaste
  • Small deodorant
  • Travel tissue packs
  • Twin blade razors
  • Socks
  • Cough Drops
  • Sore throat drops
  • EmergenC
  • Alka Seltzer
  • Cold-eeeze/Zinc lozenges

We will be collecting donations both at 5:30 pm and at the registration table at 6:30 pm, so even if you can’t join us to pack kits please bring what you can!

The official program of the event begins at 6:30 pm.
